My art is fun and light. I integrate humor, illustration and fine art into a category all its own. I have created hundreds of images of humans, other creatures, and their surroundings that are richly observed in all their glorious eccentricity. On a professional level, my clients appreciate that my work is well-crafted, compositionally dynamic and that it often reveals an informed, intellectual breadth.
I hope these images make you smile.
Suzanne has worked with clients on a wide variety of projects, including the following:
- Children’s Book Illustration
- CD Covers
- Greeting Cards
- Commercial Packaging
- “Spot” Illustrations for E-books and Printed Publications
- Large-Scale Painting for Public Space
Many of these website images begin as quick scribbles in which I am out and about somewhere with a sharpie marker and lots of paper on hand. When I see a character or a scene filled with characters that inspires me, I draw as much information in as many sketches as possible at that time.
Some of these “raw” marker drawings are included herein, such as the “Lewis” series under “Animals,” “Animal Liberation” under “Characters,” as well as a few in my “Fine Art” category. Usually, however, I create a “finished” piece from these marker drawings by tracing them on a light table onto Bristol paper in black pen and ink, and then I apply color to them with watercolor, gouche and/or colored inks.
I like to draw characters and their everyday situations in a humorous light. I’ve been illustrating since I was three years old.
I grew up as one of eleven children in a boisterous, Irish Catholic family, and I was usually sandwiched at the dinner table among some colorful personalities. Most of my siblings are creative and very funny!
As one of the quieter siblings, my expression of humor flowed most naturally through a pencil or paintbrush, so when I was five my Dad gave me formal art lessons.
I have spent many years mastering the art of “Cartoon Illustration” as a fun, effective, original way to communicate! CONTACT
